The number 1 in Formula One is one of the most well known, having been used by the defending champion since 1974. Juan Manuel Fangio drove this number at the first ever Grand Prix, at Silverstone, England, on May 13, 1950. He later scored the number's first win at the same race in 1956.
It wasn't used in 1993 or 1994 (Nigel Mansell had moved to CART and Alain Prost had retired from F1). Instead, Damon Hill drove the number 0 in both seasons.
