The number 17 in Formula One was first used by Eugène Martin at the very first championship race, the 1950 British Grand Prix. It has scored five wins in the series, the first being at the 1962 Dutch Grand Prix with Graham Hill, and the most recent being at the 1999 European Grand Prix with Johnny Herbert.
